Ingredients for making Tomato Bread

  • 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1/4 cup of warm water

Instructions for making Tomato Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. In the small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Stir until the yeast is dissolved and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  3. In the large mixing bowl, combine the flour & salt.
  4. Add the yeast mixture, olive oil, and sugar to the bowl with the flour and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough onto the floured surface for about 10-minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in the greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise warmly for about 30 minutes.
  7. Roll the dough into a circle on a floured surface, about 1/2 inch thick.
  8. Arrange the tomato slices on top of the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch of space between each slice.
  9. Bake the tomato bread for about 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven & let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
